The Ara Macaw Wildlife Refuge boasts the only transitional forest in the Central Pacific, which translates into a diverse range of flora and fauna, where species native to dry and humid forests converge. The rocky system of the aforementioned coastal area is a natural coastal formation with unique geological, biological, ecological, and landscape characteristics in Costa Rica and should be protected given its susceptibility and biological importance. Preliminary studies identified several coral reefs with a diversity of algae, mollusk, and echinoderm species, as well as significant schools of at least 55 fish species.
